Juvenile Justice Residential Services in Oxford, MI

Camp Oakland is a non-profit organization that has been part of the Oxford Community for more than 70 years. The severely at-risk youth that reside here are referred to us by the Juvenile Justice System. Youth come from all across the state of Michigan and stay for various lengths of time, depending on individual situations. Camp Oakland maintains 160 acres, which is utilized in emotional and psychological healing programs for their residents, many of whom are affected by neglect and/or abuse.

Each program at Camp Oakland is evidenced based and informed by the best practices within the field. Accordingly, our treatment philosophy is predicated on the assumption that the therapeutic approach is the cornerstone to effective treatment. Viewing each child through a trauma informed lens, our treatment modalities include substance abuse groups, cognitive behavioral therapy, career and vocational skills counseling, life skills education, nature-based treatment and animal assisted therapy.

Consistent with evidence-based treatment, our programs are continuously evaluated and adjusted for optimal treatment effectiveness. Treatment programs are directed by both our Director of Clinical Services and Director of Juvenile Justice Reform.

These two individuals oversee the implementation of programming and clinical services, weekly treatment meetings where each resident’s progress is reviewed, and the ongoing adjustment of the treatment approach to the particular needs of the individual child. In these roles, both our Director of Clinical Services and Director of Juvenile Justice Reform engage in ongoing clinical and staff training to assure that evidence-based treatment and the most effective clinical practices are demonstrated throughout our programs.

Camp Oakland also provides team building groups and leadership training. Using an experientially based approach, we work with outside groups interested in strengthening the communication, trust and interpersonal relations between members within their organization. We also provide individual consultation to non-profit leadership and other leaders within the human service field.

Why Donate?

It is so important to help this at-risk population. Data shows that the youth who leave Camp Oakland with a G.E.D. or diploma have less that 10% chance at recidivating (re-offending). Our mission is to help these youths get the education, therapies, and rehabilitation they need to be successful in their lives. By providing structure, building trust, and equipping these youth with skills and resources, we are confident that we can and will make a positive impact on their lives.

“Every Child Deserves a Chance.”

And we need your help to give them the chance they so need and greatly deserve.
